What happened

Sony Music Vision announced the release plan for Always Lalisa, the feature documentary about Lisa, on 2 September 2026. Deadline reported that the film opens in IMAX and cinemas worldwide for a limited engagement through Trafalgar Releasing from 12 October, and then streams exclusively on YouTube Premium later in 2026. Billboard gave the same order, writing that the film, directed by Sue Kim, opens in cinemas and IMAX worldwide on 12 October.

When and where

The world premiere is on 11 September 2026 at the Toronto International Film Festival. The cinema run begins on 12 October, and the YouTube Premium release is set for later in 2026. Billboard reported that tickets go on sale on 9 September through the film’s own website. Variety reported that Trafalgar Releasing handles the theatrical distribution.

Why it matters

When the film was first announced on 20 July, neither a theatrical date nor a streaming date had been set. This announcement put both in place. The year the film covers is the year Lisa began a solo career while the group was on a break. According to the project description Billboard carried, she spent that year making her first solo full-length album Alter Ego and filming her acting debut in the HBO series The White Lotus. Billboard wrote that Alter Ego reached number seven on the Billboard 200 in 2025. Tom Mackay, president of Sony Music Vision, told Variety: “Lisa’s music resonates with fans across the globe and we hope this film creates that same powerful connection.”
