The record
Bigbang Is V.I.P is the second single BIGBANG released, on 28 September 2006. It followed the first single, Bigbang First Single, by a month, and carries four tracks: ‘La-La-La’, ‘Ma Girl’, ‘V.I.P’ and an instrumental of ‘La-La-La’. The Bugs track list marks ‘La-La-La’ as the title track.
YG Entertainment’s album introduction takes stock of the group’s first two months. It lists the first single, a stage in Japan that opened YG’s world tour, and a first showcase of their own on 15 September, and says that full activity begins with this single. The same text notes that, as with the first single, the record comes with a VCD of BIGBANG video content.
Among the tracks
According to the album introduction, ‘La-La-La’ is a song YG’s lead producer Perry made with G-Dragon, with lyrics the members wrote together. The text adds that its chorus served as the title music of the reality documentary BIGBANG that aired before the debut, and that the song had already been performed at the YG Family 10th-anniversary concert. In its 2020 selection of 50 BIGBANG tracks, The Korea Herald introduced it as the title track of the second single album and “a catchy hip-hop-hinged pop song”.
‘V.I.P’ is the track the introduction describes as built entirely from the members’ raps. It was composed by the songwriter Kim Do-hyun (김도현) with G-Dragon, all of the members took part in the lyrics, and it was first heard in the last ten seconds of the first single’s ‘We Belong Together’ video. ‘Ma Girl’ is Taeyang’s solo; the introduction calls it a slow R&B song with lyrics by G-Dragon.
Afterwards
Three months later the first album, BIGBANG Vol.1, carried ‘La La La’ and Taeyang’s solo again, the latter as ‘My Girl (Tae-Yang Solo)’. That album’s credits give the solo’s music and arrangement to Israel Dwaine Cruz. The three singles of 2006 and the album are taken in turn in the story on BIGBANG’s 2006.
