The record
BIGBANG Vol.1 is BIGBANG’s first album, released on 22 December 2006. It adds five new songs to the tracks of the three singles from the group’s first four months — Bigbang First Single, Bigbang Is V.I.P and Bigbang 03 — for 11 tracks in all, and the title track is ‘Dirty Cash’. The solos by T.O.P, Taeyang, G-Dragon and Daesung each carry the singer’s name in the track title.
YG Entertainment’s album introduction sums up those four months: three singles, a debut showcase in front of some 2,500 people, and a first solo concert whose rush for tickets took two booking sites down one after the other. The story on BIGBANG’s 2006 takes those months a single at a time.
Among the tracks
The album introduction describes ‘Dirty Cash’ as a funky pop dance song whose light vocals take the weight off lyrics criticising adults’ obsession with money. It was composed and arranged by Andy Love and Jos Jorgensen, with lyrics by G-Dragon and 072. In its 2020 selection of 50 BIGBANG tracks, The Korea Herald wrote: “As the buzzing electric guitar line cuts through the energetic song, the lyrics talk about the power of money.”
‘Shake It’ (흔들어) is a new song the introduction describes as a club hip-hop track that opens on T.O.P’s fast rap. It was composed by the producer Brave Brothers with G-Dragon, and, the same text says, Lee EunJu, the singer of Mugadang, features on it and on T.O.P’s solo ‘Big Boy’. G-Dragon’s solo ‘This Love’, carried over from the first single, is the track The Korea Herald describes as a remake of Maroon 5’s 2002 hit of the same title, adding that “G-Dragon’s own spin gives the version a layer of lightness”.
