The song
‘Runaway’ was released at 6 p.m. KST on 8 April 2026 as RESCENE’s first digital single — a standalone song rather than part of a record. Announcing the date on 25 March, Donga Ilbo wrote that the group had built its identity on soap, grass and berry scents; on release day The Fact reported this single’s main scent as incense.
Scent and credits
According to The Fact, the lyrics tell of moving in a direction of one’s own choosing and completing the real me and us on that road, over a driving rhythm, dreamy guitar layers and a futuristic synth sound. The lyrics are by 방혜현, 이주헌, 더풀킴, 나윤정 and 장승민, and the music by John Emil and Emelie Eriksson; John Emil arranged it, and member Liv sang background vocals.
Reviews
In Idology’s note for the release week, Cho Eun-jae wrote that the song “successfully staged a dreamlike, mysterious image of a girl”, and that “the most important fact is that all of this planning is not difficult, but intuitive”. Of the change in sound, the same note said that “the sound that used to ripple lightly has become sharper, but the clear vocal that is theirs runs on with even more force over a thicker track”.
Binunmul (비눈물), at the same outlet, read the song a month later as “a track in which the footprints of the discography they have built up step by step come together in several directions”. The writer set out how it is made — “it revives the sense of space that ‘In my lotion’ held in its Jersey club, and the repeating guitar layers, and adds to that the speed of ‘Heart Drop’” — and described the vocal arrangement: “the opening emphasises timbre with Zena’s and May’s thin, air-mixed voices, and the later part hands Minami and Liv a firm delivery, taking a shape that builds.”
Son Min-hyun, writing for IZM, described the song’s frame as “a bird’s-eye drawing finished in acoustic pop melody over the drum and bass core that has become the ground of recent K-pop interiors”, found that design “stable for now”, and closed the piece with the sentence “they tend to be clever about untangling a difficult set-up.”
The video
The official music video went up on the group’s channel on release day, and a performance video followed the next day.
