BIGBANG at 20: 'BiiiG' and the XX : COSMOS World Tour

What happened

On 10 August 2026, STARNEWS reported that BIGBANG — G-Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung — would release a new single, ‘BiiiG’, on music platforms at 6 p.m. on the 19th, and that YG Entertainment had posted the title poster for the digital single on its official blog. A digital single is a release issued to streaming and download services rather than as a physical album; YG Entertainment is the label that announces and releases BIGBANG’s group work.

The Korea Herald reported the same release date and time and quoted YG Entertainment: “‘Biiig’ is a song that most clearly represents where Big Bang stands today as it marks its 20th anniversary.” The company added that fans could look forward to another side of the group’s musical spectrum after years of building its own distinctive sound.

The music video followed on the group’s own YouTube channel, published on 19 August 2026 at 09:10 UTC — 6:10 p.m. Korea Standard Time, ten minutes after the single reached music platforms. Its watch page showed 11,253,319 views on 27 August 2026.

Two days after the release, the touring began. STARNEWS reported that BIGBANG opened their world tour with three days of concerts from the 21st, at the main stadium of Goyang Stadium, in Gyeonggi Province just outside Seoul. The Korea Times reported that some 40,000 people attended the final night of that three-day run.

Why is it trending?

Kyunghyang Shinmun reported that ‘BiiiG’, released at 6 p.m. on 19 August 2026, reached number one on the Melon TOP100 chart within an hour, and that as of midnight on 20 August it had also reached the top on Bugs, Genie and Vibe; with Melon, those are the four largest Korean music streaming services. Melon’s TOP100 is a live ranking that updates through the day, so these are same-day readings rather than a weekly result.

The release also closed a long gap. Kyunghyang Shinmun reported that the single was the group’s first new song in four years and four months. The Korea Herald reported on 15 July 2026 that the accompanying tour is BIGBANG’s first world tour in nine years, since the ‘Last Dance’ world tour in 2017.

The tour opening supplied the second half of the news cycle. The Korea Times reported that BIGBANG packed more than 30 songs into two and a half hours in Goyang, among them ‘Hands Up’, ‘Tonight’, ‘LOSER’ and ‘BANG BANG BANG’, alongside solo material and the anniversary single ‘BiiiG’.
